Arts enrichment activities
We’re happy to provide additional arts enrichment activities for Richland #44 students. Check out some of the experiences we’ve brought to our school.
Missoula Children’s Theatre
The Missoula Children’s Theater (MCT) is the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre and has been touring extensively for more than 40 years now from Montana to Japan. They bring a tour team with a set, lights, costumes, props, and make-up, everything it takes to put on a play...except the cast. That's where we come in!
In 2017, 2018, and 2022, the PTO offered the full MCT experience at no cost to Richland elementary students. Each time, the kids have worked hard for a week of rehearsals to get ready for weekend productions of Aladdin (2017), Black Beard the Pirate (2018), and Hansel and Gretel (2022).
2025 MCT coordinators needed
We’ve booked the Missoula Children's Theater (MCT) for a week-long art elementary experience in 2025. To make it happen, we need to find one or more event coordinators. No experience is needed. There's some prep work that can be done at any time as well as in-person tasks the week of the play (April 7 - 12).
You'll have guidance from those who have done it before and volunteers to help get things done, plus step-by-step instructions as well as notes home, flyers, and more from previous MCT events. MCT handles everything related to the performance, including scripts, costumes, running rehearsals, directing, etc.
Rehearsals: April 7 - 11, 2025
Performance: Saturday, April 12, 2025
Coordinators are asked to:
Communicate with parents, school staff, and MCT
Assist MCT staff, serve snacks, and help manage kids at after school practices
Help facilitate the performances
Coordinators DON'T have to:
Act, sing, direct, or instruct the kids in performing arts
Sew, make sets, or otherwise manage activities on stage
Have any experience with theater or coordinating an event like this
If we can find one or more people to coordinate the event by Oct. 25, we'll be able to bring performing arts to our elementary students this year. To find out more, email Jen at jen_witt88@hotmail.com.
Plains Art Museum
In the fall of 2019 we invited the Plains Art Museum to Richland #44. All students in grades 1-12 were given the opportunity to learn hand building with clay. The teachers were wonderful and the students were excited and engaged in the project. We were so impressed with the talent on display as the kids made penguins, cupcakes, cheeseburgers, and coil pots.
